چکیده

2014 We report experimental measurements on the structure of invasion fronts obtained by slow vertical injection of liquid, non wetting, Wood metal into non consolidated crushed glass. The geometry of plane cuts of the invasion front both parallel and perpendicular to the flow direction is analysed. The structure of perpendicular cuts is self similar in a length scale range of 1 to 20 with a fractal dimension 1.65. Saturation profiles measured from parallel cuts are in qualitative agreement with invasion percolation models. Possible theoretical predictions for the geometry of horizontal cuts are discussed. J. Pore-scale mass and reactant transport in multiphase porous media flows

Reactive processes associated with multiphase flows play a significant role in mass transport in unsaturated porous media. For example, the effect of reactions on the solid matrix can affect the formation and stability of fingering instabilities associated with the invasion of a buoyant non-wetting fluid. In this study, we focus on the formation and stability of capillary channels of a buoyant ...

To Express Required CT-Scan Resolution for Porosity and Saturation Calculations in Terms of Average Grain Sizes

Despite advancements in specifying 3D internal microstructure of reservoir rocks, identifying some sensitive phenomenons are still problematic particularly due to image resolution limitation. Discretization study on such CT-scan data always has encountered with such conflicts that the original data do not fully describe the real porous media. As an alternative attractive approach, one can recon...

Drainage in a model stratified porous medium

We show that when a non-wetting fluid drains a stratified porous medium at sufficiently small capillary numbers Ca, it flows only through the coarsest stratum of the medium; by contrast, above a threshold Ca, the non-wetting fluid is also forced laterally, into part of the adjacent, finer strata. The spatial extent of this partial invasion increases with Ca. We quantitatively understand this be...

From Capillary Fingering to Viscous Flow in Two-Dimensional Porous Media: Role of the Wetting Properties

Microfluidics device are used to study the drainage of a wetting fluid by a non-wetting one in porous media. Both the geometry and the wetting properties are accurately controlled and allow to obtain quantitative measurements of the features of the capillary fingering occuring during the invasion as a function of the imposed flow rate. In partial wetting systems, a quantitative agreement is fou...
